Transforming Local Manufacturing of Assistive Devices to Enhance Accessibility and Independence

Kyaninga Mobility is honoured to be recognised as a 2024 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment Maker, dedicated to transforming the local manufacturing of assistive devices to enhance accessibility and independence for people with disabilities.

Our founder, Steve Williams, proudly represented Kyaninga Mobility at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York, where we were deeply humbled to receive recognition from President Clinton and his family.

The Urgent Need for Assistive Technology
Globally, over 2.5 billion people need assistive technology, but the need is most acute where poverty, disability, and rural living intersect. In East Africa, the lack of access to wheelchairs, standing frames, and walking aids significantly limits opportunities for health, education, and economic participation. For children with mobility challenges, these devices are far more than aids—they are lifelines, opening doors to independence and inclusion.

Our Solution
Building on a decade of empowering children with disabilities through Kyaninga Child Development Centre (KCDC), Kyaninga Mobility is closing this gap. By designing, testing, and manufacturing bamboo wheelchairs and assistive devices, we are reimagining mobility solutions that are affordable, durable, and locally produced. Each device is crafted to not only meet the unique needs of individuals but also to ensure dignity, independence, and the chance for every child to lead a fulfilling life.

Over the past three years, we’ve undergone an extensive design process to ensure our devices meet international standards while remaining durable and affordable.

Our mission is not just about creating devices but about creating independence, dignity, and opportunity for people with disabilities. By integrating sustainability, affordability, and innovation, we are set to transform assistive technology in East Africa and beyond.

Together, we are not just manufacturing assistive technology—we are instilling hope and transforming lives.
